Rolling Stone called them “the hardest-swinging pop quartet since Manhattan Transfer.” On Friday, March 17, 2017, Boston band Lake Street Dive will take its two-month USA tour to MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa. Show time is 8 p.m. in the MontBleu Showroom, with doors opening one hour earlier.
Featuring award-winning jazz vocalist Rachel Price, Lake Street Dive blends humor with Motown soul and Sixties pop. The quartet is rounded out by Mike “McDuck” Olson (trumpet, guitar), Bridget Kearney (upright bass), and Mike Calabrese (drums). They met while attending the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston.
The quartet’s live shows have long been widely praised. Billboard said that Lake Street Dive successfully combined “Amy Winehouse, Rita Hayworth and R&B charisma.” Philadelphia’s WXPN/The Key said, “Lake Street Dive played an incredible set …The crowd went wild.” Mountain Xpress said, “They perform with absolute joy, their passion contagious,” and the Charleston City Paper called a show “serious fun.”
The band’s recent album Side Pony, which Rolling Stone called “irresistible,” reached #1 on the Alternative chart and #11 on the Billboard Album Sales chart. Since then, the band was invited to play at the White House, was a music guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and on The Today Show. They sold out 42 shows in 2016 throughout the United States, and were featured on Chris Thile’s hosting debut of A Prairie Home Companion.
